“Man of the Castle/ Burrë i Kështjellës”
20x60cm / LED/ plexiglass
04.12.2024 / 18:00 – 21:00h/ Galeria 17
The LED lights with Albanian misogynistic proverbs and the X-Five Tinder screenshot series are part of “Man of the Castle”, a conceptual multimedia project developed over three years. For Kambo, patriarchy—the system that oppresses women—is the same system that suppresses men, forcing them to perform and silencing them emotionally. She sometimes refers to this project as “feminism in defense of men.” The project itself is divided into three chapters, each featuring photographic prints in various sizes, LED installations, and a sculpture. During Pop Art Week, the installations from the chapters “Birth” and “Love” will be exhibited.
Blerta Kambo (b. 1985) is an Albanian visual artist, activist, photographer, and filmmaker. Her personal projects and research revolve around themes such as archives, the Anthropocene and post-AI ecologies, multiple fictions/truths, ecofeminism, masculinities, borders and migration, and architecture embedded in space, expressing foundational narratives within their social contexts. She works with photography, installation, sculpture, and film.
