The untitled video of Descent into Limbo frames the collapse of a house and the concept of home, exploring the essence of what a house represents and its connection with memory and belonging. A house is more than a physical structure; it embodies the pinnacle of human endeavors, dreams, and aspirations. It is a space that changes with time, reflecting the work, love, and life invested in its creation. As the video unfolds, viewers witness the gradual disintegration of a home that took three decades to build. This temporal juxtaposition—the contrast between the long process of construction and its rapid collapse—forces viewers to reflect on the transience of material existence and the vulnerability of human labor. Filmed in the outskirts of Tirana, the film bears witness to the informal construction that spread after the country’s dictatorship, and the human need for shelter and security in the face of political and social change. Through Descent into Limbo, viewers are prompted to contemplate the fragile nature of the urban environment and the intangible essence that makes a house a home. The bass of the sound recorded—the only audible track—emphasizes collapse. When a house is destroyed, what remains? What remains beyond rubble? The intangibles that define a home—the memories, emotions, and experiences woven into its walls—are sacred. Home is where personal stories unfold, where laughter, tears, and the ebb and flow of life find solace.
