Driton Hajredini (1970) is a Kosovar artist who works across painting, video art, installation, photography and film. Born and raised in Prishtina, Hajredini studied at art academies in both Kosovo and Germany and now lives between the two countries. His work has been exhibited across the world, from solo exhibitions to film festivals. In 2003, he participated in exhibitions such as “In the Gorges of Balkans”, in Kassel, Germany, curated by Rene Block and Instant Video Festival, Manosque – France. In 2004 his works were presented at Total museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul-Korea, e-flux VIDEO RENTAL, NY – USA, “Somewhere in Prishtina”, Graz – Austria and “Love It or Leave It”, Cetinje Biennale V, in Montenegro. In 2005 his works were presented at Kunstfilmbiennale, Köln (Vörderpreis Wettbewerb), Beton Salon, Museums Quartier – Vienna, European Media Art Festival, Osnabrück – Germany and e-flux VIDEO RENTAL, Berlin-Amsterdam-Miami. In 2006, BA CA Kunstforum – Tresor, Vienna – Austria, MANIFESTA 6 Nicosia – Cyprus. A year later at Talent Campus – Sarajevo Film Festival, Sarajevo, Cite Internationale Des Arts, Paris, De APPEL, Amsterdam. In 2009 he was present with “Who Killed the Painting?” (Collection Block) Weserburg Museum in Bremen, Prague Biennale 4, George Maciunas Preis Wiesbaden, Germany and with “Who killed the Painting?” in Nuremberg, Germany. Last year he was part of the Biennial Nomade Manifesta 14 in Prishtina, while in 2023 he received the first prize in the exhibition Mulsim Mulliqi organized by the National Gallery of Kosovo.
In his work, Hajredini often explores themes around borders, refugees, exile, war and isolation. His irreverent style also often mocks established international art works.
