Archiving Practices: Archival art collections

Class I

Date: 16-19/05/2023

Lecturer: Iga Maria Szczepańska

This course aims to encourage the local scene, institutions, and various actors of our community to expand their knowledge and develop their skills in building, growing and preserving archives. Through lectures, workshops and discussions, this course will introduce participants to different work structures and practices of Modern archives in Europe; participants will compare, analyse, and discuss their interests and professional practices throughout a process that will educate and increase awareness about marginalised groups and specific collections. The course in particular will introduce participants to Modern archives in Central and Eastern Europe – from an idea to realization.

What is the importance of the archive and should we be investing in them? Who can contribute to their creation and do we have to be an archivist to be involved in archiving? Can we imagine the future of archives and collections and their sustainability simultaneously?

The class will be held in English

This class is organized in collaboration with The National Gallery of Kosova
