As an old legend would have it, in an abandoned auto repair shop, the spirit of a woman from the ever-present mechanicโ€™s wall calendar, came to life. The neighbours would say that deep in the night you could hear the spirit’s body dancing, the air filled with her singing, and her song was a one-time Yugoslav pop anthem by Zana Nimani:

๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜บ, ๐˜ฎ๐˜บ ๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ, ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ถ๐˜จ๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ต

To create new mythologies, we will reinvent the sequence of events into liberating imaginations and potentials. When we begin this process of reinvention, our rituals are a placeholder for forthcoming space, expanding and fortifying the possibility of future energies and spirit, which are still in our making.

Let this be an exercise, and let the exercise become a ritual:

This former car mechanic shop, now a gallery, is occupied by women artists each reflecting their experience of being in the world, forging their tools and visions, conquering this newly transfigured space. Their conquest changes the character of the space, their spirit breathes out, seeping into the street. Thus, this spirit spreads through the neighbourhood as a rhythm and occupies the field of rumours, secrets and old myths. Let it spice up our food, our socializing and conversations with this idea: the origin story that comes from the future, out of a convergence of fantasies and dreams, re-writes the mythology of community.

This programme is a way to reaffirm and energise existing links within a community that is seeking to centre the need for collective action and space as a field of co-production of knowledge, and living practices. This kind of artistic activity presents methodologies and tools to exercise the health of our communal energy, the relationship and position between friends, rhythms, bodies, relatives, colleagues, and lovers, in this common space.
